Steel Fixing for Reinforced Concrete

At the core of every reinforced concrete structure is correctly installed steel. United Civils delivers professional steel fixing services that meet structural specifications and industry codes, providing reliable reinforcement for slabs, walls, bases, beams, and columns.

Our steel fixers work from engineer-issued drawings and bar bending schedules (BBS), placing and tying rebar to precise dimensions, covers, and lap lengths. We supply and fix all common reinforcement types:

• High-yield rebar (B500B, B500C)

• Mesh reinforcement (A142, A193, A252, etc.)

• Spacer blocks and chairs for cover control

• Couplers, links, and U-bars

• Prefabricated cages if required

We ensure proper bar placement, tying, and labelling, with full compliance to BS 8666 and Eurocode standards. Bar deliveries are tracked, and off-cuts or surplus are removed or recycled responsibly.

Timber and System Shuttering

Formwork is critical to the shape, finish, and integrity of any concrete pour. United Civils provides both traditional timber shuttering and proprietary formwork systems depending on project requirements.

We offer:

• Formwork for slabs, plinths, columns, walls, and footings

• Traditional ply and timber shuttering

• Modular panel systems (RMD, Doka, Peri, etc.)

• Edge forms, kicker boards, and corner formers

• Chamfer strips and architectural finish detailing

Our shuttering carpenters ensure all formwork is clean, well-supported, and correctly aligned before each pour. Temporary works can be designed and installed if needed, with compliance to CDM and HSE requirements.

Pour Preparation and Concrete Support

Steel fixing and shuttering are often just one part of the concrete operation. We coordinate with our in-house concreting teams to ensure each pour is ready and supported, including:

• Reinforcement sign-off prior to pour

• Formwork checks and bracing

• Pre-pour cube sampling

• Strike-off scheduling and protection

Whether it’s a single pad or a complex multi-stage pour, our team ensures every reinforcement and formwork detail is delivered correctly the first time.

Certified Operatives and Site Supervision

All steel fixers and shuttering carpenters are:

• CSCS-certified in their trade

• NVQ Level 2+ qualified where applicable

• Experienced in both traditional and system formwork

• Familiar with reading technical drawings and BBS documents

Supervisors are trained to SSSTS or SMSTS level and ensure compliance with project RAMS, concrete tolerances, and reinforcement inspection requirements.
